Speaker:

Dr. Ioana G. Petrisor

Senior Biochemist
Great Ecology - San Diego

Topic:

Tracking Oil Spills and Defective Products

Abstract:

This presentation will review the state-of-the-art of petroleum fingerprinting techniques, illustrating their use in litigation support, as well as routine site investigations. The typical tiered fingerprinting approach (including chemical and isotopic fingerprinting) will be described, along with emerging techniques such as tree-ring fingerprinting (dendroecology). Provided real examples will illustrate the use of fingerprinting in a variety of application types, including:

·      case studies focused on identifying the source and age of petroleum contamination in order to recover remedial costs from responsible parties;

·      routine site investigations where targeted fingerprinting was successfully used at sites with long history of oil contamination for more efficient and expedient remediation;

·      studies denoting the potential to use simple fingerprinting tools for identification of defective products such as inappropriate motor oils –an emerging issue worldwide

Cost:

$30 for members, $35 for non-members, add $5 if reservation is not received by 5pm the Friday before. Online registration will end at noon on the Monday before the event. Walk-ins with no reservation will be charged an extra $10 and be asked to wait until those with reservations are seated.

Please note that confirmed reservations will be invoiced regardless of attendance.
